Latvia, a Baltic nation of just under two million, has seen more than its share of ravages from political tyranny and deliberate attempts to kill parts of its population. Latvians are also no strangers to being refugees or relocated. Around 500 000 Latvians fled or were ordered to flee to interior of the then Czarist Empire when Latvia was invaded by German forces during World War I.
